The University of Kansas is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This institution has been continuously accredited since 1913. In addition, certain programs of the University have specialized accreditation. Recent and Upcoming Activities and Events
Through the HLC Open Pathway process, KU conducted a four-year review and submitted an Assurance Argument to HLC in June 2019. In September 2020, KU will propose a Quality Initiative to HLC, which will identify an area of improvement on which to focus leading up to the university's ten-year comprehensive self-study in 2025.
In Fall 2017, KU developed a Multi-Location institutional Report for a sample of the institution's locations. The Multi-Location Report included data about each selected location and explained its operations. The reviewer met with academic leaders, faculty, and students during the visit and looked for evidence to assure the quality of KU's extended operations and the institution's capacity to maintain that quality. The pattern of operations were deemed to be adequate and no further review or monitoring was recommended.
As required by the HLC, KU created an evidence-based Assurance Argument four years after our last comprehensive self-study to demonstrate that we continue to meet each core component of the five criteria for accreditation shown below.

The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations.
Criterion Two. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible.
Criterion Three. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
The institution provides high quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered.
Criterion Four. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments, and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement.
Criterion Five. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness
The institution’s resources, structures, and processes are sufficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities. The institution plans for the future.
As part of the Open Pathway model, KU will also develop a Quality Initiative that addresses an academic issue of institutional importance. Proposals for the initiative will be announced and collected by the Office of Academic Affairs starting in Spring 2018.
