Bold Aspirations is the strategic plan for KU, comprising individual plans for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses and for the medical center.
The strategic plan sets out the new, higher expectations we have for ourselves as a university and the priorities that we will pursue. It guides our decisions on everything from the creation of a vibrant new general education curriculum to engaging more faculty members in scholarship and research. Our university's strategic plan shapes our budget priorities and guides us as we focus on our primary mission: educating leaders, building healthy communities, and making discoveries that change the world.

An important aspect of our planning was a university-wide study, Changing for Excellence, that the Huron Consulting group is leading to recommend ways we can transform KU's business and administrative processes.
Bold Aspirations builds on the strategic initiative planning that began in November, 2009 when Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little created three task forces to identify strategies for advancing the University of Kansas in the areas of research engagement and student recruitment, retention and success. The planning process was called "Charting the Future".
During Spring 2008, KU undertook a focused planning effort, Initiative 2015, that addressed three key areas of KU's mission: Teaching and Learning, Discovering and Innovating, and Working for Kansas.Task forces were formed to address each of the three areas and were asked to develop specific recommendations for the future direction of the University. In September 2010, the Kansas Board of Regents approved a 10-year strategic agenda for the state’s public higher education system. Entitled Foresight 2020, the plan sets long-range achievement goals that are measurable, reportable, and ensures the state’s higher education system meets Kansans’ expectations.
